William Percy I

There is little information available other than he married Harriet Wills(?). This information comes from his son's death certificate from 1913. There is a record of a land grant in the Colonial Secretaries Letters Relating to Land in 1851 to a William Edward Percy here: http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online/results?state=&fields=%25percy%3B&names=Surname%2C&Index=CSreLand&id=14&Surname=%25percy&SUBMIT=Submit+Query

Maybe he came out to Australia first and his son came out the following year? The Everrets at Ollera were apparently known for their 'commmunity-building' and bringing out 'trustworthy' people from England, but this all might be a bit far-fetched as a hypothesis at this stage!

There is a Simpson R. Percy applying for a lease in 1849 in the Gwydir district for the area known as 'Parish of Trigamon'. This is near Bingara, so suits the particular area of Ollera. The link is here. This is a dead end - His name was Robert Percy SIMPSON, Esq, of Trigamon.

I'm not convinced that William ever came to Australia, but if he didn't then his son came to Australia at the age of 18 (57 years in NSW according to death William II death certificate in 1913=1856 arrived in NSW. Age 75 years at date of death in 1913-75=born 1838). 1856-1838=18 years on arrival.

The only records (which I cannot disprove) of deaths in an appropriate date range is a William H Percy in Singleton here and a William Percy of Young here.

  1. The math is not correct for William Percy death certificate in 1913. 1913-57=1856 estimated year of arrival. James Beasley Percy was the infomant on the death certificate so the information on 'time in australian colonies' 57 years is only an estimate passed down through word of mouth or a round about guess. I have convict ancestors that are documented with government records of their exact arrival but the informant on their death certificate has been out by 7 or 8 years, also the age at death is stated at 76 on the death certificate which in turn make His year of birth 1837 born in London, also there was a William Hotspur Percy who married a Harriet Budden at muswellbrook 1875 they moved to Singlelton and purchased the hotel Horse and Jockey renaming it the Percy hotel which is still under that name today but as far as I can work out there is not a conection

  4. OK Micheal

The photo has been sent. Sorry about the long delay, I forgot all about it until I looked at your new designed site. I went to Albury to collect the photo from a lovely family who are descendants of William and Elizabeth Percy way back in the middle of last year. So I know you will love this photo as I do.

  5. Hi.
I'm looking for information on a William Hotspur Percy who married the widow Harriet Budden (nee Cole) in Muswellbrook, NSW Aust 1875. The then went on to build the Percy Hotel in Singleton. He died there in 1894.
Their daughter Blanche married Alexander E Ball in 1902
