Ernest Bramwell Percy I (1897-1968)

Ernest Bramwell Percy was my great-grandfather. His birth was registered at Bingara, NSW in 1897. From my research, his father, James Beasley Percy (1866-1958), worked as a farm labourer near Ollera, Guyra, NSW, before moving to Gunnedah. The first record of Ernest after his birth is his military service in the Great War. At the time, he was a farm labourer on the property 'Ivanhoe' via Gunnedah. He served in the 33rd Battalian AIF as an infantry soldier. A record exists at the Australian War Memorial for 2629 Private Percy, Ernest Bramwell. He left for France on 21 June 1916 and returned to Australia on 12 June 1919. His embarkation record is here. See the sidebar on the right for a 19 page service record. He was wounded in action at least twice, both times he was gassed in France. He was also charged for being 'outside of the area' prescribed 'without leave' and his pay was docked!
